Good afternoon (?), and thanks for your continued support of Extra Points.

Earlier this week, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that the WAC and ASUN hired Oliver Luck to serve as the Executive Director of their new proposed football conference. Luck, a former NCAA executive, WVU athletic director, XFL Commissioner and longtime Potential Candidate For Jobs On Serious Professional Watchlists, will start immediately.

The partnership is certainly ambitious. After hiring Luck, the WAC and ASUN hope to transition into a fully-fledged FCS league, and then eventually, move into the FBS as a new, football-only conference.

I spoke with Luck over the phone this morning to better understand why he took the job, the timeline for the project, and what this could mean not just for the WAC and ASUN, but FCS and FBS football, generally.
