What is *actually* in a coach contract?
Here are some interesting things we saw after reading a LOT of them
Good morning, and thanks for your continued support of Extra Points.
Since I launched Extra Points back in 2020, I’ve read a ton of contracts. I’ve read apparel contracts for hundreds of D-I programs. I’ve read contracts for NIL consulting companies, for MMR firms, for football games scheduled sometime after the heat death of the universe, and more.
We’re in the process of trying to make it easier for other people to browse, compare and understand all of the contracts that shape how athletic departments work, but as you could probably imagine, it’s a bit of a paperwork lift.
A few months ago, I shared a post on what athletic director contracts actually look like, and judging from how many people opened and shared it…I guess many people were actually pretty curious! I’ve also written a similar post on what apparel contracts look like for mid-majors.
So, in that spirit…what do coach contracts look like? After reading dozens and dozens of these, from football to basketball, swimming to softball…here’s what I can share.
