Job Description:

Extra Points is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Account Executive to join our team. As an Account Executive, you will play a key role in driving sales, fostering client relationships, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of meeting sales targets, a deep understanding of client needs, and the ability to communicate effectively.

Extra Points (link) is a publication covering the business, policy and off-the-field stories in college athletics through breaking news, original reporting and unique commentary, written by longtime college sports industry reporter Matt Brown.

This role will focus primarily on selling sponsorships for the Extra Points newsletter and subscriptions for Extra Points Library.  Extra Points Library is our newest product and provides a database of 4,000+ documents and contracts needed by athletic departments, agents, consultants and researchers to stay informed with the latest college sports industry data. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the client portfolio.

  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to meet or exceed sales targets.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients.

  • Understand the Extra Points business and strategy to support our customer’s business objectives, challenges, and needs.

  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients, ensuring timely and effective communication.

  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure clients’ needs are met.

  • Provide feedback to internal teams to improve service offerings and client satisfaction.

  • Track client communications and pipeline updates for management review.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of prior experience in sales, account management, or a related role.

  • Familiarity with the college sports industry and preferably, experience selling into athletic departments and/or working with brand sponsors

  • Familiarity with digital media sales, newsletter ad sales metrics, and digital marketing success.

  • Comfortable performing outbound calls and emails to target companies.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and projects simultaneously.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
