I asked some ADs what they think about potentially expanding NCAA basketball tournaments

I'm currently in San Antonio for the NCAA Convention and will be until Saturday afternoon. I'll try to share more details about some of the actual policies being voted on in tomorrow's newsletter. Trying to follow along with the NCAA's version of 'How A Bill Becomes A Law' feels like a Sisyphean effort to me, probably because Mark Emmert never came up with a snappy cartoon song. Charlie Baker, add that one to the agenda.

I've spent a lot of my time here in Texas recording video interviews for Collegiate Sports Connect, but I've also had time to talk to industry leaders away from the cameras. One of the questions I've been asking nearly everybody is: What do you think about maybe expanding the NCAA basketball tournaments?

Before the convention, virtually every AD and commissioner I talked to expressed some level of antipathy toward expanding the basketball tournaments, especially by significant numbers.

But Craig Pintens, the AD at LMU in the WCC, recently wrote an essay over at our sister publication, Athletic Director U, advocating for exactly that. Pintens thinks that both the men's and women's tournaments should expand, not by a little bit, but all the way to 96 teams.
