Here's what I know and think about the WAC/ASUN -> FBS plan
Good afternoon to everybody except the Croatian National Team, and thank you for your continued support of Extra Points.
On Friday morning, Pete Thamel of ESPN dropped a bombshell. The current FCS members of the WAC and ASUN are planning on moving up to FBS, creating what they hope to be a football-only league.
Those schools are Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, Utah Tech, Southern Utah, Austin Peay, EKU, Central Arkansas and North Alabama. UTRGV is in the process of launching a football program, and according to Thamel, is also expected to be in that group. Thamel also reports that "League officials have begun early conversations with at least four other high-profile FCS football programs."
I made a few other phone calls this morning, and here is what I know, and think, about what could potentially be a transformational change for both FBS and FCS.
